What inspires you?

Dear Pearls,

We hope you are safe and healthy.

Today, we want to answer to the question asked by sikaa, which is the title of this article: What inspires you?

If you have been following us for some time now, you will easily answer that we are inspired by Africa.

But more over, we want to explain what is our daily fuel.

We are inspired by Africa, African stories and tales, African know-how and fashion, African legends and heroes, African style and lifestyle...


Because Africa is a huge continent made of so many countries and cultures and creativity and inspiration and passion, we take inspiration from Africa as a whole, and from Cameroon in particular.

We want to share that with you, Africa as we see it and as know it. We also want to include that drive in your lifestyle: that is the reason why when we design, we keep Africa in mind.

The inspiration can come from the fabric we wear, the hairstyle we own, the make-up we use...All the designs and creativity that emerge from Africa is powerfuly embeded in our collections.

Afo-A-Nto'o embroidered boubou dress (Afritudes)

The Afo-A-Nto'o embroidered boubou dress draws inspiration from the rich royal iconography, heritage textiles, and intricate artisanal embroidery traditions of Cameroon and West African regalia. The Afo-A-Nto'o, which means thing from the Palace, is the foremost symbol of the Kom people of the Northwest Region of Cameroon. It symbolizes "royal authority and the promise of continued succession”. In 1966, the Afo-A-Nto'o was stolen from its sacred grove at Laikom (the seat of the Kom people, where the Foyn resides) by one of the princes. With trafficking of African traditional art, the statue was taken to the United States of America.   The Kom people believe that the Afo-A-Nto'o possesses mystical powers and that shortly after it arrived in the US it began disturbing its new owners by destroying everything around it.  Its new owner took it and threw it into the sea but only to get back home and see the Afo-A-Nto'o. Ngü-fuo-nto'o, the three KOM royal statues

  Ngü-fuo-nto'o is the set of three royal statues from Kom culture. The well-known statue Afo-A-Kom is part of the set.   The dress is called after the set, because we designed three dresses of this type, with sabra, traditional fabric from Morocco and toghu embroideries from Cameroon. Why we love Reniss!

Hello les perles!  How are you doing?  Today we want to talk about a Cameroonian singer that we love: Reniss.  Well known for her music, we love the way she promotes african know-how in hairstyles. Check with us. 1)Malagasi traditional hairstyle Reniss surprised with this outstanding look from the Malagasy cultural heritage. I her song "Dans la sauce", she introduced to us (who weren't aware of this powerful and beautiful hairstyle) the Malagasy traditional hairstyle.               This african hairstyle quickly became a trend, not only in Cameroon...              2) Fulani traditional hairstyle More recently, creative Reniss came back with this particularly styled and detailed and awesome look.    With this hairstyle, she confirmed that she is definetely the Queen of African hairstyles, and her hairstylist definetely needs tobe awarded! Such an amazing move in promoting African know how....
